Addition
This unit teaches the students how to add their doubles. This is a very important skill for all children to know because once they know their double they can use that strategy to help them when it comes to adding other numbers as well.
The teacher will show the students a video with a song all about adding doubles. The students will learn the song by listening to it several times. The teacher will also teach the students motions to the song to make it more exciting and fun. The students will also engage in some activities that involve practicing adding their doubles. These activities will take about 2 days to complete.

State Standards:
CCSS.MATH.CONTENT.1.OA.C.5
Relate counting to addition and subtraction (e.g., by counting on 2 to add 2). |
Goals
Unit Goals:
Students will be able to complete addition examples easier with the help of knowing how to add doubles.
Students will learn addition with doubles.
Methods
Anticipatory Set:
The teacher will begin the lesson by showing the students the video/song about adding doubles. The students will listen to it several times until they start catching on to the tune and words.
Introduce and Model New Knowledge:
The teacher will show the class that once they know the double song they will be able to complete addition examples quicker and easier.
Provide Guided Practice:
The teacher will play a game on the board with the students where she will write an addition example with doubles (4 + 4 = 8) and will call on a student to quickly say the answer. Each time the students says the correct answer the class will sing that part of the song all- together.
Provide Independent Practice:
The students will now complete some work where they will practice adding doubles in various ways. The students will be divided into 4 groups where they will each have a chance to go to 4 different centers to complete each task.
Center 1: Students will do an activity which they will glue into their math scrapbooks. The students will take 10 different colored papers and fold it in half. One each folded paper they will put various numbers of hole punches (1-10). Once they are done hole punching each folded paper they will open each paper and will then see double the amount of whole they originally made! The students will glue their colored hole punched into their math interactive scrapbooks.
Center 2: Students will use addition flashcards to practice adding doubles. Each child in the group will have a chance to be the leader who gets to read the card to the rest of the group.
Center 3: Students will make up their own dance to the doubles song and will practice singing it and doing the dance at the same time.
Center 4: Students will complete a mini quiz on adding doubles.
Assessment
Formative/Ongoing Assessment:
The teacher will assess the student as they complete the tasks by the learning centers.
The teacher will use the mini quiz from center 4 to help assess the students and see if they are familiar with adding doubles or if they still need some more practice.

Tova, your UDL lesson plan looks great! You really differentiate instruction in the learning centers; I especially like the hole punching activity.
